How To Control Oily Skin

If you have oily skin just like me, follow these few steps to keep the oil under control throughout the course of the day.
  1. Invest in good skin care products. Never be too scared to pay some extra cash for good skin care products. Your skin deserves it as it the first thing people see when they look at you. Going cheap on skin care products can be dangerous as chances are that substandard ingredients were used to make the products.
  2. Do not use acne products if you don’t have acne. A big mistake people make is using acne products because it has “oil control” written on the bottle. You can easily over dry your face using these products, causing you to have dry patches all over or even acne.
  3. Don’t use a bar soap to wash your face. Your facial skin is more sensitive than the rest of your body and should therefore, be handled with care. Bar soaps are too tough for your face and can possibly clog your pores resulting in a break out. Instead of using a bar soap, wash your face with a good and gentle face cleanser that is guaranteed not to clog your pores, but lift off the dirt and keep your skin feeling fresh.
  4. Always moisturize. Another mistake people make is getting rid of moisturizers because they believe that moisturizers worsen the problem. But when you fail to moisturize after washing, your pores will overcompensate for the missing moisture and produce excess oil to keep your face moisturized. So if you don’t moisturize, your face will do it for you... in excess.
  5. Exfoliate every other day. If you have oily skin, chances are that you are prone to having acne. Exfoliating your face about three to four times in a week helps to get rid of dead skin that would otherwise clog your pores and cause acne. Exfoliation also helps remove sebaceous filaments (those white tiny things that stick out from your chin and nose) temporarily.
  6. Finally, use a blotting paper during the course of the day. As much as we try to control our oily faces, they don’t always behave. Keep a blotting paper handy to blot your nose and t-zone anytime the oil surfaces. If you don’t have a blotting paper, separate a leaf of 2 ply tissue and use 1 ply to blot your nose or any other oily spots.
Watch out for my next post as I will be sharing names of products you can use for oily skin, and where you can purchase them.
