Basic Makeup Must-haves

I remember when I first started doing my makeup. I was all over the place as I wasn’t sure what products to use, or how to even properly apply them. I remember how I used to shave my eyebrows thin and paint them back on with an off shade brown eyeliner. So far, my growth in doing my makeup has been tremendous and yours can be too.
If you are just starting to use makeup, you need to start by knowing
the basic tools and makeup products that you need and why you need them. Your basic makeup essentials are:

  • Primer: The work of a primer is to make sure that your makeup stays on for long hours in the day as it tries to work against the weather. The primer usually is applied before the foundation, so you can say the primer is a pre-foundation to the rest of your makeup. If you naturally have oily skin, you should get a mattifying primer which helps to control production of excess oil. If you have normal or dry skin, a regular primer would do.
  • Foundation and/or powder: Your makeup foundation is called a “foundation” for a reason, as it is the foundation on which you build on the rest of your makeup. In getting a good foundation, you must consider three main things; your skin type (oily, combination, normal, and dry), your skin shade and your skin undertone. Make sure to get a foundation/powder shade in your skin color so you don’t end up looking like you are wearing a mask.
  • Eyebrow filler: A really good and precise eyebrow starts from the shapening. If your eyebrow isn’t shapened right, your results after filling in your brows with a filler or pencil would be horrendous. If you don’t know how to shapen your brows, make sure you go to a professional so you don’t mess it up. When choosing an eyebrow filler/pencil, choose a shade in the color of your natural hair.
  • Waterproof Mascara: Mascaras are important because they give your eyes definition, and your lashes length and volume. With these benefits of a mascara, the last thing you want is to have black tears dunning down your face and ruining your makeup in the event that you cry. A waterproof mascara will stay on your lashes in times of tears, rain, and heat.

  • Lip color: Lip colors range from lipsticks to lip stains, lip glosses, and lip balms. The to-go colors to have are pink, red and nude. Each of these colors have a wide range of shades in them so make sure to pick the shades that best suit your skin tone.
As you practice with the basics, you’ll get better and start collecting more makeup products to practice with in no time!
